This month is IFCM World Choral Day (8 Dec)
-------------------------------------------
Why not use your IFCM World Choir Day concerts in December to
raise relief funds supporting aid in the world’s most needed
areas?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT TO DO:
* Log onto the World Choral Day website and register your
choir and concert details www.worldchoralday.org (
http://www.worldchoralday.org )
* Decide the world aid charity you wish to donate to and make
contact with your local branch
* Promote your concert as a fundraising concert as part of the
“IFCM World Choral Day” in your community
* Collect donations at the door or donate the proceedings of your
concert to your selected charity
* Pass the donations you have collected to your selected charity
as soon as possible
* Download your images and register your information from the
concert www.worldchoralday.org ( http://www.worldchoralday.org )
* On the website read about all the other great choral events
around the world that have donated to the relief effort.
We are particularly thinking of our colleagues in The Philippines
right now and hope that as a choral world can assist them in
anyway possible. Through a united choral world we can make a
difference, so why not get on board and register your support as
“volunteers connecting our world through choral music”?

A sample of participating Choirs
--------------------------------
Oslo Chamber Choir
------------------
The Oslo Chamber Choir was founded in 1984 by Grete
Pedersen and since 2005 has been under the direction of Håkon
Daniel Nystedt. Parallel to singing classical repertoire, the
choir started experimenting with Norwegian folk music, and
through intensive work together with the best performers in this
tradition, the Oslo Chamber Choir has acquired a unique
expression by being the only choir where all the singers are
profoundly trained in Norwegian Folk Music singing. Over twenty
years the choir has worked closely with composers specialized in
Norwegian folk music, developing a new way of using this music in
a choral setting.
The Oslo Chamber Choir has successfully participated in
numerous festivals and given concerts and tours in Europe, Asia
and the USA. In 2008, the choir was invited to “La Fabbrica del
Canto” in Northern Italy, in 2008, the choir sang in Tokyo, and
in 2007 and 2009, the choir undertook a tours to the USA, and
included concerts at St. Olaf College, Concordia College which
was broadcast on Minnesota public radio and later all over the
USA. On assignment from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, the Oslo Chamber Choir toured in the Palestine and
Israel in 2000. The choir has held concerts in Germany, France,
in the Baltic, as well as several other countries. Future tours
to South Africa and USA, among other places, are now being
planed.
The Inner Mongolian Youth Choir − “Choir Base” of Art College of
Inner Mongolia University
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Inner Mongolian Youth Choir, also known as “Choir Base
of Art College of Inner Mongolia University, was founded in
September 2008. It is the first government sponsored children’s
choir through the Inner Mongolian history.
Famed conductor Yalungerile is the choir’s music director
and conductor and well-known Mongolian composer Se. Enkebayaer
has composed extensively for the choir. The choir has more than
80 students, aged from 12 to 18, all of whom are either from
junior or senior high school. All the singers are from the Inner
Mongolia grassland, and all are children of herdsmen in Inner
Mongolia with natural artistic and academic abilities. Teachers
coming from Mongolia, Ukraine and the USA instruct the singers in
piano, morinkhuur (horse-head fiddle), violin, flute, trichord
and English. After 5 years of training and education, these
students’ vocal and instrumental performances progress quickly.
They sing foreign and Mongolian folk songs as well as play
a variety of instruments, and learn Mongolian dances. They have
performed in numerous concerts in important Inner Mongolian
cultural events and competitions. In July 2012, the choir
performed in the Beijing National Theatre in a concert titled
“Grass and Starry Sky”, and also received two gold medals at the
“11th Chinese International Choral Festival”. Conductor
Yalungerile was recognized as the best conductor in the
competition. In September 2012, representing Inner Mongolia, the
choir toured Outer Mongolia where they joined the 3rd
Ulaanbaatar-Inner Mongolia Cultural Week”, and gave concerts
entitled “Talented Children’s Voice” in the Ulaanbaatar City
Cultural Center.

Idoco hands over archives to ECA-EC, agreement signed in Pécs
-------------------------------------------------------------
The Internationale des Organisations Culturelles Ouvrières
(IDOCO) is a platform of national associations which profess to
democratic and social principles. The association is the legal
successor of the IDAS (“Internationale der Arbeiter‐Sänger”)
founded in 1926. In 2013 the association has 6 member
organisations as well as one associate member. Since 1973 the
association has regularly organised choir and music festivals for
the members of its member associations. In November 2013, after
an extensive cooperation process, the Presidents of IDOCO and the
European Choral Association – Europa Cantat (ECA‐EC), signed an
agreement on the incorporation of the archives and the history of
IDOCO into the archives of ECA‐EC. The members of IDOCO have
decided the dissolution of the association for the end of 2013.
Wolfgang Schröfel, President of IDOCO, then agreed with the
European Choral Association – Europa Cantat (ECA‐EC) that the
archives of IDOCO and its history shall be integrated into ECA‐EC
in order to preserve the memory of the association beyond its
dissolution. With the agreement signed the European Choral
Association – Europa Cantat engages itself on preserving the
history and memory of the international movement of workers’
choirs.
