A sample of participating Choirs
--------------------------------
harmonia ensemble was founded in 2009 as a chamber choir
composed of members who formerly sang in the World Youth Choir as
well as young and professionally-trained singers from music
colleges. Located in Japan, the members of the group, without a
conductor, create music voluntarily and produce music while
exchanging opinions.. Their repertoire includes not only works
from the Renaissance to the 21st century but also pop, jazz and
folklore.
The Manado State University Choir conducted by André de
Quadros comes from the province of North Sulawesi in Indonesia.
It is a mixed voice chamber choir of 24 singers and has been
acclaimed for its artistry and beautiful sound. The choir
performs a wide range of repertoire from the Western canon as
well as traditional Indonesian music with choreography, also
popular music and Southeast Asian choral music. It represents
not only Indonesia but also new directions in choral music
worldwide, redefining choral and traditional music by creating
cross-cultural and time-sensitive bridges.
The Choir of the John Paul II Catholic University of
Lublin was founded in 1921 and is regarded as one of the finest
choirs in Poland. Since 1998 Grzegorz Pecka has been the Choir's
conductor and artistic director leading them in performances
throughout Poland as well as festivals in all of Europe, North
and South America, Australia and Africa. The repertoire of the
choir includes vocal and vocal-instrumental works of Polish and
foreign composers from the Renaissance to the present.

ECA-EC European Award for Choral Composers 2014
-----------------------------------------------
The European Award for Choral Composers is the continuation
of the “Golden Tuning Fork” Award, organized by AGEC over many
years, and was first organized by the European Choral Association
– Europa Cantat in 2011/2012. The aim of the award is to discover
unknown or less known choral works from different European
countries, already published or written for the occasion, that
are good and interesting but can be performed by a good average
choir, not just by a top-level choir.
The 2014 European Award for Choral Composers is now on,
with the winning compositions being performed in the Festival
EUROPA CANTAT XIX in 2015. Regulations and details on

Vale Monique Lesenne (July 25, 1937 - January 16, 2014)
-------------------------------------------------------
It's with great sadness that we inform you that Monique
Lesenne has passed away. She was an integral ‘player’ in the
field of choral music in Europe. She was intimately involved in
planning and implementing so many projects and was an active
force in IFCM.
Monique Lesenne studied archaeology at the University of
Ghent, Belgium, where after graduating she also worked in the
archaeology department. But it was music, and especially choral
music, that was her passion.
n 1967 she began working as a volunteer for the Vlaamse
Federatie van Jonge Koren (Flemish Federation of Young Choirs)
(VFJK). From the outset she took an international role and became
active in the European Federation of Young Choirs - Europa
Cantat. Monique took part in organizing choral weeks,
competitions and courses. She was also very closely involved in
the representation of Flemish choirs in international choral
competitions and in organizing the triennial Europa Cantat
Festival. On her 65th birthday, she officially retired – although
you’d hardly have noticed the difference. She continued to
organize choral weeks in Ghent and around, choral days for
children, various masterclasses for conductors and a session of
the World Youth Choir in 2009. On her 75th birthday, she decided
to slow down and ‘limited’ her activities to being a member of
the Board of Directors of Koor&Stem, organizing regional
preliminary competitions, supervising choral days for children,
international choral weeks, attending competitions and festivals
at home and abroad, keeping an eye on new talent in various music
schools and recruiting for the World Youth Choir. (Biography

Vale Lars Edlund (November 6, 1922 - December 21, 2013)
-------------------------------------------------------
Lars Edlund was a Swedish composer, organist and music
teacher. He studied music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in
Basel, Switzerland, with Ina Lohr. He was inspired by Gregorian
music, and converted to Catholicism later in life. Lars started
working as a church musician in the early 1940s, and was also a
teacher at the Swedish Royal College of Music in Stockholm. From
1971 onwards, he worked solely as a composer. The majority of his
compositions were vocal music, many of them with texts on
religious, or existentialist themes. Several of his compositions
can be found in the 1986 hymnal of the Church of Sweden.
