Asia Pacific Choral Summit in Wuxi, China. Representing a
cross-section of voices of the region, the hope is to foster and
nurture the development of choirs and choral music in the Asia
Pacific region. The singers are ages 18-28 and come from all
parts of the Asia Pacific region. The choir exists to embrace
the ideas of respect, love and joy among the peoples of this
culturally diverse region and to be instruments for peace and
understanding.

1997, was founded in 1988. The chorale was promoted to full-time
choir in 2006. Since then the choir has been performing over 60
concerts annually including regular concerts, project concerts
and invited concerts including visits to local schools,
hospitals, and companies. Wonju Civic Chorale has a unique sound
in which the Korean style is very well mixed with European
sonority. This unique sound of the choir enable them to have a
wide range of repertoire from Renaissance to Modern Music.
Moreover, Namgyu Jung‘s unique musical interpretation has made
Wonju Civic Chorale one of the best Korean choirs.

Galván. It is the a cappella vocal group with the most
international status of any in the history of Mexican music.

group has appeared throughout Mexico, the USA, Europe and Asia.
They have also collaborated with Bobby McFerrin, the King's
Singers and Marimba Nandayapa.

SOFIA VOKALENSEMBLE

who remains as its conductor. The choir's performances are
characterized by a warm, lyrical Swedish choral sound and
engaging stage presence. At home in Stockholm, Sweden the choir
gives regular concerts in the Sofia church. They have performed
throughout Scandinavia as well as in Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The members of the IFCM Executive Committee were very

Thinking of our Korean Colleagues
---------------------------------

The international choral community is thinking of our
friends in South Korea at this time following the recent tragedy
and senseless loss of life. The maritime disaster last month just
off the coast from Seoul has personally affected many of our
colleagues in the Korean choral community and within the teams
who are working on the WSCM10. Some of the invited choirs to the
WSCM10 will be performing in the Ansan Cultural Centre - the home
town of most of the missing and deceased students and passengers.
The IFCM offers our deepest condolences and support to the
families, friends and colleagues in Korea.

VALE Paul Salamunovich
----------------------

(1927 – 2014) - a conductor and master musician accredited
for shaping the sound of American choral music has died. Through
recordings and live performances; particularly as Music Director
of the Los Angeles Master Chorale (1991 – 2001); through his
inspirational college and university workshops, and through
working with some of the great directors of Hollywood in
providing lush choral sounds for film scores, Paul Salamunovich
created a unique choral blend and warmth that inspired composers
such as Morten Lauriden (Lux Aeterna) to write iconic music for
the choral repertoire. A friend, mentor, and inspiration to many,
Paul will be sadly missed in the global choral community. Rest in
Peace.

VALE John Shirley-Quirk
-----------------------

(1931 – 2014) The IFCM notes the death of the English
bass-baritone John Shirley-Quirk. He was 83 and was still
teaching at Peabody in Baltimore and at Bath Spa University in
England until the end. Although much of his career centered
around the British Isles and English music (particularly the
works of Britten and Vaughan Williams), he was highly regarded
for his performances of Bach and Mahler. Rest in Peace.
