World Symposium on Choral Music Follow-up
-----------------------------------------
The Tenth World Symposium on Choral Music was held in
Seoul, Korea (6-13 August) with 24 international choirs and 10
Korean choirs participating. The international choirs represented
all continents with children's choirs, youth ensembles, adult
choirs and smaller ensembles. This year's theme - Healing and
Youth - was captured in the repertoire presented by the choirs,
offering very thoughtful insights into the ways that music
reflects this theme. More than 1000 delegates attended the
Symposium and responded enthusiastically to the choirs'
presentations.
More than 30 lecturers were present (again, from all
corners of the world) providing fascinating lectures on a host of
topics that drew large crowds to the various sessions.
Information on their presentations is found in the summer ICB.
Each morning began in the National Theater with a "Morning Sing"
let by an internationally-known conductor providing music each
had selected and which appeared in the very handsome "Morning
Sing" songbook - a wonderful resource for every attendee to take
home!
The Symposium featured three festive concerts to open the
Symposium, celebrate the mid-point, and provide a suitable
conclusion to the Symposium. The opening concert included six
international choirs each providing a soupçon of music from their
country followed by a musical welcome from several Korean choirs.
The concert on 10 August featured the Asia Pacific Youth Choir
followed by 3 Korean choirs combined, conducted by Dr. Anton
Armstrong. The closing concert included the World Vision
Children's Choir, the African Youth Choir, an invitation to the
11th Symposium (to be held in Barcelona, Spain in 2017)
concluding with a very moving rendition of Brahms' "Requiem"
featuring a combined international choir from Korea, Sweden and
the USA conducted by Dr. Sang-Kil Lee, co-chair of the artistic
and executive committees of the World Choral Symposium. It was
also fitting that the concert was emceed by Ambassador Young-shim
Dho, Honorary Chair of the Symposium who guaranteed its success.

Symposium and Vice President, IFCM

IFCM World Youth Choral Education Conference
--------------------------------------------
This event took place for the second time in combination
with the 12th China International Choral Festival which was held
in Beijing from 29 July to 4 August 2014.
Many of the presenters, conductors, and board members of
IFCM met in Beijing to assist the China Choral Association in
adjudicating the festival-competitions, and gave lectures and
master classes/workshops for the Educational Conference.
A great success, which will be, repeated in future in which
the role of IFCM for educational purposed will be even bigger.
