Announcing IFCM Asia Pacific World Choral Expo 2015 in Macau, 12 - 15 November, 2015

The IFCM Asia Pacific World Choral EXPO 2015 is a new and innovative event for all ages and skills levels of choristers, conductors and composers in the Asia Pacific region and beyond. This project is a collaboration between the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM), the Asia Pacific Choral Council (APCC), Macau Choral Art Association, the China Culture Association, the China Chorus Association (CCA), the Guangdong
Choral Association, and administered by the Macau Choral Art Association.
The event will run in four parallel parts: Masterclass Tracks – a Symposium style series of Masterclasses, Mentorships, Presentations and Consultancies for conductors, composers and singers, a Competition in two sections – Section A with specific repertoire requirements and Section B with free choice repertoire, numerous top level regional and international Invited Choirs giving Concerts and Presentations and a comprehensive Exhibition of wares from music retailers and publishers, choirs and choral organisations.
If you are living in the Asia Pacific region and involved in choral music in any way, then this is your event so you need to get involved. Nestled in the shadow of the majestic Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges, Salt Lake City, Utah will be the site of the American Choral Directors Association’s 2015 National Conference, February 25-28. This biennial gathering brings together approximately 20,000 choral conductors and singers for three days of sessions, concerts, and special events designed to celebrate and advance the choral art.
Of the several hundred audition applications, 40 choirs were invited to perform. In addition to those from the U.S., the list of prestigious performers includes choirs from Cuba, Estonia, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

The American Choral Directors Association will host America Cantat VIII in the sunny Bahamas, August 21-31, 2016. Registration will open in January 2015 when full schedule and artistic and concert details will be presented by the artistic committee. ACDA is thrilled to partner with the Bahamas to host a festival unlike any other available throughout the world. All choirs are invited, and all choirs will find a place in this cultural, non-competitive event.

The North Dakota State University Challey School of Music and American Choral Directors Association are currently planning a fall 2015 Choral Music Symposium that will focus on 21st century American choral composers. The event will be similar in scope to 2013’s “Choral Music of the Americas.”
John Miller, Director of NDSU’s Division of Performing Arts, said that “The CMotA symposium and the partnership with the American Choral Directors Association are only the beginnings of the local, national, and international emphases that NDSU brings to the performing arts.”

Notice From The Swingle Singers
-------------------------------
We are profoundly saddened by the news that our founder, friend and mentor Ward Swingle has passed away at the age of 87. Ward was an inspiration to so many in the vocal community and beyond. As an arranger, composer and vocalist he redefined what singers could do, made us hear music in a new way and brought us so much joy. It has always been an immense honour and privilege to perform under his name. Even long after he retired from the
group Ward was incredibly supportive of the current Swingles, always excited to hear about our latest projects and encouraging us to take risks. His passing is a huge loss and our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time. Thank you, Ward, for everything you have given us.

You can by taking part in a questionnaire regarding Female Conductors’. The subject areas are: Conducting as performance? Disparity between male/female, choral/orchestral conductors? What role do conductors see themselves as having, e.g. creative leader, supreme commander, facilitator, educator, etc…? How is repertoire chosen? Is conducting on a professional/amateur/voluntary basis? Attitudes to rehearsal etc…? The questionnaire will be anonymous and confidential.
