A message from María Guinand and Alberto Grau
Today we receive these wonderful memories. It was 1994, as we celebrated 20 years of triumph in Arezzo of the Schola Cantorum and 5 years of Cantoría Alberto Grau.
What a wonder to see so many dear faces and to remember with affection and joy these moments and this legacy! Life has given us many good reasons to celebrate.
To all the singers of our Schola family and the Choral World, our best wishes for health and light go to all of you in these turbulent and complex times. May music always accompany us and let us continue through it, having hope and faith in the future of our humanity!

Schola Cantorum de Venezuela
During their long history the Schola Cantorum de Venezuela has premiered in Venezuela many works of world famous composers such as, Händel, Carl Orff, Beethoven, Penderecki and Vic Nees, among others. The Schola Cantorum de Venezuela has successfully completed multiple concert tours performing their extensive repertoire, including above composers and many others, singing in some of the most important venues as Barbican Center and Royal Festival Hall (London), Concertgebouw and Carré Royal Theater (Amsterdam), Museums Quartier (Viena), Auditorio Luciano Berio (Roma), Sydney Opera House and Lincoln Center (Nueva york), to mention a few.
In 1974, the Schola won two First Prizes in the prestigious "XXII Concurso Guido D'Arezzo" competition in Italy, in Polyphony and Folklore categories.
The Schola performed in several world premieres in the last three decades such as: Osvaldo Golijov's "Oceana" at the 1996 Oregon Bach Festival (USA) under María Guinand, Osvaldo Golijov's "Pasión según San Marcos" at the 2000 European Music Festival (Stuttgart, Germany) and John Adams "A Flowering Tree" in 2006 (Vienna, Austria). In 2001 Schola got one Grammy and one Latin Grammy nominations for their recording of Golijov's "Passion".
Cantoría Alberto Grau
The Alberto Grau Cantoria has participated in the most prestigious European international festivals and competitions. For their outstanding presentation at the “Neuchâtel International Choral Festival” (Switzerland 1989), they won First Prize in the Female Voices category and the “Novum Castellum” Grand Jury Prize. In the same year, they performed at the "XXXVII Guido D'Arezzo International Polyphonic Competition" (Italy), where they won First Prizes in the 16th Century Chamber Music and Popular Music categories as well as Third Prizes in the 16th Century Sacred Music and Music from the 19th and 20th centuries categories. With all these distinctions, the Cantoría achieved an unprecedented event in the history of choral music in Venezuela. They participated in the editions of the “Musique de Morvan” Festival in France, in 1984 and 1991, and in the editions of the “Europa Cantat” Festival in 1991 and 1994, in Spain and Denmark, respectively.
The Alberto Grau Cantoria has performed universal works that span from the 12th century to the present day, releasing in Venezuela many compositions for equal voices, including the complete version of Benjamin Britten's "A Ceremony of Carols", "Les Trois Petites Liturgies" by Olivier Messiaen, "Misa Sâo Sebastiâo" by Heitor Villa-Lobos, "Zwolf Lieder und Romanzen Op. 44" by Johannes Brahms, "La Demoiselle Elue" by Claude Debussy and "Memoria Justi" by Vic Nees. They also staged outstanding works such as "Requiem Mass" by Juan Bautista Plaza, "Stabat Mater" by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, "Jubilate Deo" by Giovanni Gabrieli, "The Planets" by Gustav Holst, "An Anthology of the English Carol" and "In Nativitate Domine";, all repertoire for equal voices.
